Little Acorns

The Autism Resource at Wescott was opened in Spring 2007, as a provision for infant pupils with a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The autism base was named Little Acorns by the children of Wescott School Council.

Supported inclusion

At Little Acorns we support pupils with ASD for whom it is not possible to meet their needs through an ordinary placement in a mainstream primary school. At Little Acorns these pupils can receive specialist support, as well as step-by-step, supported inclusion into the mainstream school

Admissions Policy

Little Acorns has eight full-time places for infant aged (4-7) pupils. Admissions to Little Acorns are decided by a panel representing the Special Educational Needs (SEN) section of the Education Department of Wokingham Borough Council. Before an application for a placement can be considered each pupil will need to meet the following criteria:

  • An Educational Health Care Plan

  • A diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder

  • The potential for inclusion in a mainstream primary school.

Little Acorns Staff

The teachers, Lead LSA and LSAs work with the pupils in Little Acorns or in the mainstream classroom as appropriate to that particular pupil.
