Reading (FS, Y1 & Y2)

Reading is a priority and this enables children to access all other areas of the curriculum. We encourage all children to read at home at least three times a week and this can be the Little Wandle book, library book, home reader or a bedtime story you share of an evening. This exposure supports vocabulary acquisition as well as providing opportunities for the children to practise and embed their reading skills.

Phonics (FS & Y1)

Each week in Foundation Stage and Year 1 the children will receive a paper homework sheet that will come home on a Friday which is focused around the sounds they have been learning in phonics, which supports our school phonics scheme Little Wandle. There is no class phonics homework for Year 2 as they have weekly spellings.

Spellings (Y2)

As Year 2 have completed the Little Wandle phonics scheme they move onto Spellings. Every Friday, Year 2 children will be sent home with paper homework sheets focused on the Spellings covered in class that week to practise at home.

Maths (FS, Y1 & Y2)

As we follow the White Rose Maths Scheme across the school, each week in the year group weekly updates teachers will provide a website link to the home learning with the area focus for the children to practise at home. Most of these are videos that the children can watch independently and engage with the activities throughout.

In addition to support your child develop their mathematical fluency skills there is a 1-minute Maths App from White Rose too!
